Pododermatitis (English: bumble foot) is an inflammatory, infectious and degenerative process affecting the soft tissues of the foot of various bird species. It can be significantly disabling and cause death from septic and toxemic complications, so it should be promptly recognized and treated.

It is precisely the enormous importance of feathers to their survival that makes birds very careful to keep them in the best hygienic condition. This is certainly no small feat! Turdids, in fact, possess two thousand to three thousand feathers and feathers, each of which needs to be cleaned of dust and dirt every day, smoothed, lubricated and properly repositioned so that it performs its function to the best of its ability. During these operations the birds also get to remove remnants of the keratin case that covers the new feathers, allowing them to be able to open properly.

The redwing and Caesena are turdids that require more attention than others ( e.g., Song Thrush, Blackbird).
Such species, nest in northern Europe where the climate and vegetation are different from the environments where other turdids breed. Therefore the breeder, must recreate an environment with the characteristics most similar to the natural environments where such individuals breed.
